Coddy vs Sololearn: Free Plans, Prices and Which One to Pick
Both teach coding in short lessons, but their free plans limit different things. What you get free, what each paid plan costs, and who should pick which.
Sololearn and Coddy look similar from the outside: bite-sized lessons, streaks, leagues and an app you can open on the bus. The differences show up the moment you make a mistake or want to practise more than a few lessons. This comparison is based on both companies' own pricing and help pages, checked on 1 November 2026.

How do the free plans really compare?
This is where the two apps differ most.
Sololearn's free plan gives you the standard lessons. What it holds back is practice: real-life practice problems, in-lesson practice and extra quizzes are all Pro features, and free users have limited hearts, so too many mistakes pause your learning. There are ads and wait times too.
Coddy's free plan opens every course, every lesson and every certificate. The limit is energy: each passed challenge or quiz uses one, and energy comes back at one every four hours. You also see the first five quiz questions of each lesson, get three Bugsy questions a day and up to three projects. We go through the details in Is Coddy free?
Which one is better for actually writing code?
Both have a code editor and let you run real code. The difference is how much practice you get before paying.
On Sololearn, the practice-heavy parts sit in Pro. On Coddy, every lesson ends with a coding challenge checked against tests, on every plan, and you can work in the browser on a computer from the first lesson. If you're learning to build things rather than to recognise syntax, that matters more than any other line in the table.
What about AI help?
Sololearn puts its AI features — Explain My Answer, Explain My Code, Find My Mistakes and solution suggestions — in its Max plan.
Coddy's AI tutor, Bugsy, is on every plan: three questions a day on Free and Plus, unlimited on Pro. It reads your code and your last error and gives hints rather than full answers, which is closer to how a good tutor behaves. If you want to see how it works before paying, the free daily questions are enough to judge.
Which is cheaper?
It depends on how you pay.
- Yearly, without AI: Sololearn Pro at about $6 a month (roughly $70–72 a year) is cheaper than Coddy Plus at $79.99 a year.
- Monthly, without AI: Coddy Plus at $9.99 is cheaper than Sololearn Pro at $12.99.
- With full AI help: Sololearn Max at about $10 a month billed yearly (roughly $120 a year) and Coddy Pro at $119.99 a year are almost the same.
- Free: Coddy gives you more — every course, certificates and a few AI questions a day.
- With our link: Coddy's prices drop another 20% at checkout, which makes yearly Coddy Plus about $64 — cheaper than Sololearn's yearly Pro.
On Coddy, the promo code codingforweb20 takes another 20% off any plan at checkout on the website — here's how it works.
Who should pick which?
Pick Sololearn if you'll pay for a yearly plan anyway and want the lowest price, or if you're interested in its AI and productivity courses.
Pick Coddy if you want to learn as much as possible for free, you like to experiment without being punished for mistakes, or you want math or chess alongside coding.
Not sure? Use both free plans for a week. Count how many days you actually opened each one — that's a better guide than any feature list.
Common questions
Is Coddy better than Sololearn? For free users, Coddy goes further: every course and certificate is open, with a daily energy limit. Sololearn's free plan keeps practice problems behind Pro and limits mistakes with hearts. For paying users the gap is smaller, and Sololearn's yearly Pro is cheaper.
Is Sololearn free? Partly. Standard lessons are free, but practice problems, unlimited hearts and an ad-free experience need Pro, and AI features need Max.
Does Coddy have hearts like Sololearn? No. Coddy uses energy instead: each passed challenge or quiz uses one, and it refills at one every four hours. Wrong attempts inside a lesson don't cost energy.
Which app has a better AI tutor? Coddy's Bugsy is available on every plan (3 questions a day free, unlimited on Pro) and gives hints instead of answers. Sololearn's AI features are in its Max plan. See what each Coddy plan includes.
Can I use Coddy and Sololearn on a computer? Yes. Both work on the web and in their apps.
